Thoughts on Chizik from the Blogosphere

Real quick because I don't have time to write up my whole thoughts right now but here are a couple links to articles/blogs about the hiring of Gene Chizik as head football coach at Auburn.

  • Umm...don't you think it'd be a good idea to keep at least 1 of the coaches that's been recruiting this top 20 (or it used to be) class. James Willis is one of the best recruiters in the country and Auburn just kicked him to the curb. Ain't it great watching a bunch of academics try to run a business?!
My knee-jerk reaction: UGH, BLAH, BLECH, YUCK, etc. It's kind of like lighting a bottle rocket only to have it fire for half a second and then not explode. Kind of like shooting a gun only to have the bullet slowly roll out of the end of the barrel. Kind of like saying you're going to make a big splash with a hire only to have it be extremely disappointing & controversial...oh wait....

Also, nothing against Chizik personally. I loved him as a D-coordinator but I think it's going to be very hard for him to be successful here.
