Leadership Issues at Auburn?

So by now you've probably heard that Tommy Tuberville is no longer the coach at my beloved Auburn University. While I think Tommy will be fine, I wonder about Auburn. Is there real, true, strong, clear leadership in the athletic department? Is the board of trustees really staying out of the day-to-day business of the athletic department? Does the athletic director have a clear sense of direction for the Auburn football program? Are we, as the Auburn family, ok with assistant coaches finding out they've been fired by hearing it on the radio or receiving text messages? I think these are just a few of the questions that this football season and coaching decision have brought to light. I think in the next few days and weeks we will start to have some answers.

Ivan Maisel at ESPN has an article critical of the firing. Tony Barnhart at the AJC is also skeptical of the situation.

I doubt Coach Tuberville would ever find or read this blog but if by some chance he does I would like to extend a very sincere THANK YOU for all he has done for Auburn University and the football program. While I have not totally agreed with all his decisions, I have fully supported him and been very proud of him being our football coach. He ran a clean program, was a strict disciplinarian, beat Alabama 7 out of 10 times (something no other Auburn coach has ever done), and with the exception of his first and last years kept Auburn in contention for the SEC title. I wish him the best in all his future endeavors and have been and will be praying for him and his family.

Coach Tuberville will be hard to replace. It will be extremely difficult to find a coach that will uphold his strict standards and still win lots of ball games. It will be nearly impossible to find a coach with as much media savvy. It will be hard to find a coach that will put up with all the incompetence and unrealistic expectations of some fans and board of trustee members.

Coach Tuberville is a class act, he deserved better, and I hate to see him go. WAR EAGLE COACH!!!
